In 2002 I began working with clay, throwing shapes, altering surfaces and experimenting with glazes. Two years later I discovered that painting allowed me to work more spontaneously, with better control of my color palette. My love of texture transferred from clay to canvas. Rather than realistically recreating the natural and geological features that have always fascinated me, I try to show my response to them. My
abstract acrylic paintings start with a canvas and an idea, but I go where the paint takes me. Most paintings have many layers before I feel they are complete.
